The Franks, “Falling Out,” Mp3 Review

The FranksIt’s always great to hear true band energy captured in a recording. That’s just what you’ll get with The Franks’ song, “Falling Out,” off of their upcoming CD, Suzy Can't Spell. If they can do this in the studio, I can only imagine what they can do live.

The UK quartet starts off their tune slowly, without giving a clue as to what you’ll get next. Then, the fun and energy of the band begins to build and build, as vocalist/guitarist Jamie Frankel sings, “Underneath the window, I'll look up and you'll look down, and we'll wait for tomorrow. I know I didn't mean to say this, but if there's something you should tell me, it's your duty to follow. If there's something you should tell me!”

Once the Franks have built you up, they briefly bring it back softer with a hook so sharp, it could reel in just about anyone. While drummer James Allen playfully taps away at the snare’s rim, Frankel sings and repeats, “Oh you poor boy you're getting closer…” I don’t know what the “poor boy” is getting closer to, but the part is so catchy it doesn’t matter. The line repeats as the drums pick up and the band comes in, rounding out the hook. All of the sudden, the dynamics shift drastically into emotionally driven rock ‘n roll as the band delivers what could be considered the second hook and chorus of the song. The passion these guys have preserved in this recording is great.

Towards the end of the dynamic alt-rock tune, the boys go into one last double-time, ass-kicking chorus. Before you know it, it’s all over, and you’re going back to hit play again. What a great song. With Dean Jacobs (guitarist) and Michael Kilbey (bass and backing vocals) also contributing to the mix, this band is a lot of fun to listen to. I bet they put on one hell of a good live show.

I thoroughly enjoyed reviewing The Franks’ song, “Falling Out,” off of their upcoming CD, Suzy Can’t Spell. They’re currently preparing for a summer European festival tour. Check out their schedule and go catch a show. You won’t be disappointed.
