Tad Robinson, "More Good Than Bad," Mp3 Review
I haven't heard any new "old-school" soul in a quite a while. My longing days are over. Tad Robinson is a funky, soul-juice drinkin', mojo workin' blues singer. His tune, "More Good Than Bad," from the CD A New Point of View, is as body shakin' as it comes.
"More Good Than Bad" is an upbeat, groovy, get up and dance kind of tune. To add to the greatness, Robinson's got quite the line-up of musicians and collaborators he works with. The keys by Kevin Anker are smokin', and the signature riff guitar tone delivered by Alex Schultz is cleaner and smoother than a fresh shave. The rhythm section also keeps things moving by adding a tight and stellar backbone to the mix. The drums are perfectly timed by Robb Stupka, and bassist Steve Gomes (who also wrote this fine tune) holds down the low end with style. Let's not forget the soulful harmonica performed by Robinson himself. The musicians are all clearly professionals, and the soul groove they produce is oozing out of my speakers down onto the floor. I'll clean it up later after I'm done dancing.
Besides being a harmonica player and quite the prolific songwriter himself, Tad Robinson can truly sing the blues. His voice possesses a quality and character that could put him on the same level as some of the greatest soul and blues singers, past and present. Robinson's vocal delivery on "More Good Than Bad" is a perfect example of his skills and his personalized homage to the greats that came before him.
Apparently, I'm not the only one who thinks Robinson is overflowing with talent. The Blues Foundation, headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, has nominated Tad Robinson for 2008's Soul/Blues Male Artist of the Year. Further, Robinson's CD, A New Point of View, has been nominated for Soul/Blues Album of the Year. The Blues Music Awards will be held in Tunica, Mississippi on May 8, 2008.
"More Good Than Bad" is a phenomenal tune performed by phenomenal artists. There's only one problem. My neck is now sore from head-bobbing to the smoothest band East of the Mississippi. I highly recommend checking this song out. The minute Robinson starts singing, you'll know you've found something special.
