Stickboy, "Pirouette," Mp3 Review Floating leisurely on his own musical cloud is a wondrous talent from the UK called Stickboy (otherwise known as Craig Edmondson). Stickboy is a one-man songwriting and recording phenomenon. His song “Pirouette” is unique, catchy, and one of the best tunes I’ve heard in quite a while.
Stickboy performs all of the instruments, vocals, and harmonies on “Pirouette.” It’s a singer/songwriter piece delivered with a refreshingly unique full-band sound falling somewhere between mellow rock, Americana, and a bit of polka (due to the catchy, signature, accordion-sounding melodica riff). I doubt you’ve heard anything like it, and I highly recommend you check it out. “Pirouette” is a fantastic song. The storytelling lyrics in “Pirouette” are expertly crafted. The plot is based around a carefree woman who responds to the singer’s concerns about love and life. Stickboy sings to her, “So I asked you about life. Oh, why must we be? You said I waste too much time on philosophy. And you took out a book and pointed at clouds. Said, “Would you rather be here or just floating around?”” The secret of the woman’s carefree ways is revealed in the catchy chorus. Stickboy enviously observes her and sings, “…All you could do was dance ‘round the room. Oh, you danced a pirouette, said it made you feel young again. And all I could do was join in with you. Yeah, I danced a pirouette, and it made me feel younger.” In my opinion, Stickboy’s lyrics in “Pirouette” are of the same caliber as any major post or modern day folk lyricist. I’m floored by how well they work in this song. Stickboy’s “Pirouette” is one of the best folk/pop songs I’ve heard in a very long time. It’s scheduled to be released on Itunes and on his upcoming CD within a few months. In the meantime, you can hear this and other great Stickboy tunes (“Better as Two” is phenomenal as well) on his Myspace site. He also has quite a lot of great performance videos on YouTube. You will not be disappointed with this brilliant artist. Artist Website: www.myspace.com/stickboyuk Review By: ListenersGeneration.com
