Joshua Park, "The Quill," Mp3 Review Singer/songwriters have a tough road to ride. The key to this art form lies in the ability to express one's deepest inner thoughts or emotions in a song. Joshua Park does this well with his tune, "The Quill." He artistically and creatively illustrates the frustrations of an art-form with a fading audience. His dilemma: how to express his personal feelings and at the same time turn it into a song that will have just enough audible appeal to generate an audience. I have been in his shoes, and I have felt his musical desires and frustrations. I believe Park has captured his deepest thoughts nicely in this lyrically strong and musically dynamic song, "The Quill."
My friends always tell me to keep my acoustic songs just acoustic. I always want to add production like drums and bass. I thoroughly enjoyed, "The Quill's" hushed, acoustic only approach on the first two verses. Then the full band kicked in. It surprised me initially, then I realized just how much it added to the song. In fact, it almost develops into an entirely new song, with Park's nice vocals hitting higher ranges than his introductory low whispers. Even further, what was once a sleepy acoustic number finishes with a rockin' jam-band feel. I like it.
Whether or not the masses will pick up on Park's approach is a tough call. Again, singer/songwriters create a tough market for themselves. I think, however, that any listener who appreciates well written lyrics delivered with dynamic soul and deep emotion will appreciate what Park offers in his song, "The Quill."
