Hinkel, “Shine,” Mp3 Review

HinkelWith heavy harmonies accentuating pleasantly recognizable lead vocals, Germany’s Hinkel delivers a lyrically sweet and pop-friendly tune with their hit, “Shine,” from their CD, Not a Life-Saving Device.

Hinkel is a solo project led by Volker Hinkel (guitars, vocals, keyboard). He’s joined by fellow band mates Dirk Blümlein (bass) and Claus Müller (drums). The trio creates a well-arranged, dramatically full-sounding pop tune with “Shine.”

Volker Hinkel's slighltly gravelly and accented vocals give the song a distinct personality. Remember fellow musicians – record labels are looking for distinct vocals, and Hinkel delivers the goods with great tone over strong lyrics. Volker opens the song with the verse, “If I'm lost in space, you’re gravity. For all my faults – apology. No prison walls that you won't undermine, if you make it shine.”

The producer, Laird, of John O’ Groats, the recording team at Hinkelstone Studio, and mastering engineer Robin Schmidt are all to be commended for their work on this piece. The song’s production is full and ready for any radio, commercial, or television offers that may come around.

Hinkel has a professional, identifiable, and polished sound. Their hit, “Shine,” from the CD, Not a Life-Saving Device, is an impressively strong piece that could open up big doors for the German trio.
