Cuba, "High Fidelity," Mp3 Review I’ve been listening to Cuba’s CD, Epilogue, for a couple of weeks now. I just so happened to be listening to it when I had a high speed crash on the highway. The good news is I’m okay (thanks for asking). The bad news is, the crash destroyed my vehicle and destroyed their CD, leaving me without one of my favorite Cuba tunes, “High Fidelity.” Fortunately, they’ve got this tune on their website. I needed a fix. Like other great tunes on Epilogue, “High Fidelity” has a late night ambience and unforced catchiness that I really enjoy listening to. Having been without the disc for weeks, I still cannot get the chorus of this song out of my head. Complemented with harmonies by John Murray, vocalist and songwriter Jon DaCosta sings, “I thought I knew me before I knew you. Gave you a CD, tell you my feelings that I couldn’t write down. I just couldn’t say… I just couldn’t say the words out loud.” The delivery, recording quality, and overall effectiveness of this chorus really works. The performance of the band and the album producers, Cuba and Don Arney, are also to be commended. They skillfully fill up the sound space without overproducing the album. The tone on Evan Amies’ drums sounds full and awesome, and his heavy use of the toms creates a wonderful sense of urgency in “High Fidelity.” DaCosta and Murray play acoustic guitars panned opposite of each other, and bassist, Ryan Lammey, comes in during the intro with a sweet little riff, holding the low end down nicely. Cuba’s CD, Epilogue, has some great tunes you should check out, including “Photography,” “Fore the Sake of the Cause,” and “In Between Things.” It’s “High Fidelity,” however, that I find myself singing all the time. Be careful! It grows on you quickly and pops up in your head when you least expect it. Artist Website: www.myspace.com/cubamusic Review by: ListenersGeneration.com
